Lovejoy in their newest music video "Normal People Things", directed by Ted Nivison. |
Lovejoy time and time again never fails to make incredible music, and this statement still stands to be extremely true after their latest release. “Normal People Things” is the name of the single that was released just last week, on October 6th, 2023. Despite the title, this song is not normal, but in all the best ways possible. It is very high energy, the lyrics sung in a unique style, different from any of the other songs Lovejoy has previously released.
Their latest EP, "Wake Up & It's Over" bridged the gap between Lovejoy's older, slightly slower and safer music, and the chaos that "Normal People Things" is. Adding on to the idea that Lovejoy’s music is straying from what many would deem to be ‘normal music’, the music video was directed by long time friend of Wilbur Soot, Ted Nivison.
Ted Nivison is another Youtube creator and occasional Twitch streamer, though one of his main focuses now is directing Lovejoy’s music videos. Nivison graduated from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in cinema and photography. His love for cinema, as well as his education, shone through his work on Youtube, later shining even brighter when he directed James Marriott’s “Gold” music video.

Just a few months ago, Ted Nivison directed the music video for Lovejoy’s “Portrait of a Blank Slate”, which has recently won “Best Music Video” at the Nashville Film Festival 2023! Nivison had a very unique vision for this song, the video focusing on a 1940’s style scientific experiment, seeing if a man can survive the power that comes from the band performing live (that description does not do the video justice in the slightest, it is recommended to just watch it!).
Normal People Things follows that same thought train of odd and unusual concepts for presenting music videos. This one dives into a cheesier concept, though it is just as effective in capturing the audience’s attention. For fans of horribly cringey photography, this is for you! This music video has all four band members in tacky costumes, stone faced and posing for what looks like a portrait session. It isn’t until the song hits its peak that they all break free from their poses, dancing and playing their instruments to their heart's content. Nivison and the boys of Lovejoy have once again made another amazing, unique, and extremely entertaining music video! Their music speaks for itself as it is, but these videos really add on to their potential to grow even bigger than they already have.
