Nothing is worse than finding out that the celebrity figures you look up to, who have been portrayed as nothing but a saint, are actually a stuck up individuals. Dramatic, sure, and there are worse things in this world, but the feeling still leaves at least people like me feeling uneasy and a little upset. It's hard to enjoy the things they made knowing just how they really are. Thankfully, with Lovejoy, they wear their hearts (and strong personalities) on their sleeves. Given that this band is four young men all in their 20's, it shouldn't be a surprise that they are prone to doing funny and adventurous things, but it's nice to know that they don't take themselves too seriously. While they are rapidly growing in popularity, they still go out of their way to take on small, silly venues, sometimes doing more intimate shows for fans.

A perfect example of this was when they first started out back in early 2021; they had released their first EP, "Are You Alright?", by this point, but they were too nervous about performing yet as they weren't fully prepared to put on regular, good concerts. In typical Lovejoy fashion, they did the only thing they knew how to do: perform at a small venue with a silly cover name: "Lampwith Sock". A close friend of Will Gold's suggested the name, and the band ran along with it. Not only did the four boys perform, goofing around while trying to perfect their craft, Gold later went on to Twitch, the popular streaming website, to pick through the footage of the gig with a live audience, explaining his thoughts and how he believed they could improve. Gold emphasizes just how much he wants to include fans in his music by giving them a way closer look at the musical process than I've ever seen any band do before.

In April of 2023, the band agreed to play at a particularly small and intimate venue for the Spotify 'Our Generation' pop up that was a three day event. Not many fans were able to secure tickets to see the band, making this one of the smallest shows they have ever played. Due to the lack of space and time, the boys performed acoustic covers of their songs, leaving out their signature horns. There was no need for them to worry about the outcome of their performance, as the audience sang along, filling in for the horns. The fan base surrounding the band is very representative of how the band acts; there is a lot of carefree people who just want to hear some good music, and if that means making fools out of themselves, then so be it.

A personal favorite for a small performance show, was when they played at Pappy and Harriet's, back in August of 2023. During the show, Gold told a story of how he had visited the small BBQ restaurant before, sitting in the corner eating and admiring the band posters they had all over their walls. When he realized that they were all posters from the bands that had previously played there before, he made a promise to himself that he would come back to perform, and that is exactly what he did. To add to the whimsy of the show, Gold wore a cowboy style hat for the entire gig, occasionally speaking in an "American cowboy accent", and even sang a song of the audience's choice purely in his "American" accent. While it was the sweatiest concert of my life, 300 people in a tiny bar while it was nearly 90 degrees outside, it was the most fun, original, and hilarious concert I have ever been to. I would do it all again if I could!
